Maximizers or power optimizers are a new technology developed to maximize the energy harvest from solar photovoltaic systems. This is done by maximizing the energy output from each solar module in a string. Because solar modules are usually wired sequentially within an array, when one fails, the entire system can see electricity generation significantly reduced, similar to the older strings of Christmas tree lights. Maximizers utilize proprietary algorithms to track the best combination of voltage/current given any temperature, irradiance or other factors in solar power generation. Thus, maximizers can increase the performance of solar systems, improving an owner’s return on investment (ROI).
