Wind Basics

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into electricity using wind turbines.  Plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, and clean, wind power reduces greenhouse gas emissions when it displaces fossil fuel-derived electricity.  Typically, on-grid wind turbines are installed at homes or businesses to generate power; at times where there is insufficient wind, these locations can tap into the grid of the local utility company.  Surplus electricity is sent back into the grid and the homeowner or business owner is compensated.  Rural or remote areas are commonly off-grid.

Wind Turbine Applications

  • Replaces noisy and polluting fossil fuel back-up generators
  • Augments solar and other renewable energy installations, increasing productivity, reliability and cost effectiveness
  • Grid-tie applications using UL1741 approved inverters to reduce energy costs
  • Generate dedicated power for housing, community and health centers not connected to the grid
  • Generate dedicated power for signage lighting
  • Suitable as an educational tool, demonstrating renewable energy generation
  • Water pumping systems
  • Continuous and reliable power for repeater stations, suitable for telecoms and miliary applications
  • Small wind farm installations
  • Adaptable to meeting all other specific electrical needs

Your ReSource.

You'll find DC Power Systems wind turbines nothing short of exceptional.  We searched the world to find a selection of on- and off-grid wind turbines we are proud to stand behind, and pleased to offer you and your customers.

Kestrel.
Available exclusively from DC Power Systems.
Manufactured in South Africa, Kestrel offers the highest quality small wind turbines the world over.  Kestrel small wind turbines are quiet, powerful and robust machines.  Available in 600, 800, 1000 and 3000 Watt sizes, each is marine grade with variable pitch blades (except for 600 Watts).

Chinook.
Chinook wind turbines are Montana made and tested.  They have only two moving parts and sealed-for-life bearings.  With excellent performance at low wind speeds, and a proprietary 3-phase axial PMA utilizing Neodymium Iron Boron technology, Chinook turbines are suitable for domestic or marine applications.
